This week we’re tackling one of the biggest prep stages—grinding everything down and getting ready for fiberglass. The dust in the barn is real, absolutely everything is covered! But it sure is nice to have this protected space to work in. Jeremy helps remove the rest of the hardware off of the deck, we peel the rest of the wallpaper out of the cabin, and we get started on cutting the fiberglass mat!
With the deck now separated from the hull, the teardown continues. In this episode we remove the centerboard, continue dismantling the interior, cut out the damaged bunk, and start grinding away years of old fiberglass so we can get a proper look at what needs to be repaired. Things are getting dusty, but it is super exciting to see real progress happening!
In this episode we take a big step forward- removing the deck from the hull so that we can properly repair the damage underneath. We drilled out all the rivets and after a few unexpected hurtles, we were ready to lift!
We acquired this boat from the Chilliwack Sea Cadets after it was badly damaged in storage. It filled with water and the extra weight caused the boat to crush itself onto it's trailer. The hull is damaged and the entire boat needs a major overhaul.
